Life-threatening intrathyroidal parathyroid adenoma.
Acute primary hyperparathyroidism and parathyroid crisis are characterized by life-threatening hypercalcemia, a rare disorder. A 69-year-old female patient presented at our hospital's neurology clinic with weakness, nausea, vomiting, depression, and hypercalcemia. Treatment of hypercalcemia resulted in no improvement in neurological symptoms, indicating resistance to treatment. Thyroid ultrason...

Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is not an uncommon endocrine disorder. We describe a patient with PHPT who presented with progressive proximal limbs weakness and dystrophic changes of leg muscles. Serum calcium, alkaline phosphatase, and parathyroid hormone were elevated and serum phosphorus was low. Neck computerized tomography scan showed a parenchymatous tumor in the right lobe of the thy...

متن کاملLocalization of ectopic parathyroid adenoma with Tc-99m-MIBI [Persian]
Ectopic paratliyroid adenoma might create a clinical dilemma in patients with hypercalcemia. Radioisotopic scan is a sensitive and noninvasive method which can be useful in these patients. In this report a case of ectopic parathyroid adenoma is presented and the usefulness of TC-99m-MIBI scintigraphy as compared with other modalities is discussed.
متن کاملEctopic mediastinal parathyroid adenoma.
Ectopic mediastinal parathyroid adenomas may be cause of Primary Hyperparathyroidism (PH). The occurrence of these lesions is explainable on embryologic basis. We report the case of a 20-year-old patient with PH due to an ectopic mediastinal parathyroid adenoma located in the anterior mediastinum. After its accurate pre-operative localization, surgical resection through a cervical manubriotomy ...
